What is your favourite thing about blogging?

My answer: 

Blogging allows me to be creative and to escape from the everyday routine. It is something I do just because I'm passionate about it. It has also helped me to write better and put my ideas together. I can proudly say that I too belong to world wide web, not just in my presence in Facebook but for my presence in a much sought after websites, the world of books n book blogs. 

The other favourite things about blogging is I get to have a say on the books I read, why I love them or hate them and be critical of the works of fiction. It makes me appreciate the effort of writers and makes me hope that someday I too would call myself a writer of fiction and not just a writer of blogs.

Book blogger hop : 6 July- 13 July 2012

Welcome to another week of book hop. This great weekly event is hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books. This weeks's question is:

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be?

Well, this is a tough one. I'm thinking back to all my favourite books. Instead of just one character, I want to list a few that I would pretend to be, just for fun.

1. Little prince (The little prince)- He is  adorable and wise. He could dish out the most amazing nuggets of wisdom. If I were him, I  could just fly to any planet of my choice, observe the planet dwellers, befriend weird creatures like that arrogant rose he keeps covered. Wouldn't that be great?

2. Mary Baker (Secret garden) - I love the little girl who brought to life an abandoned garden. I loved Mary's tenacity and her relationship with Colin her sickly cousin. I love gardening and this enchanting story and character has always remained close in my heart.

3. Enzo (the dog, The art of racing in the rain) - I know its a little weird to be a dog. But enzo is no simple dog. He has a mind of his own and boy he can charm any heart. I loved his loyalty, his quirkiness and his influence in his owner's life. A dog who loves F1 racing, you bet id love to be him.

4. Daniel Sempere (The shadow of the wind) - I would love to be given the trust of discovering the secret hidden tomb of library. Its just so delicious to think of discovering a hidden book, a book much sought after and a book that somebody would kill to have.

Book blogger hop- 20/5-23/5

Welcome to another week of book hop. Book blogger hop is hosted by Jennifer at crazy-for-books. It has been ages since I joined the book hop. I missed discovering new blogs and the chance to mingle with other great bloggers out there.I cant pass up this week's question though. This week's question is from Ivan who blogs at Ivan Bookworm:

 "If you were given the chance to spend one day in a fictional world (from a book), which book would it be from and what would that place be?"

My answer: I would love to spend a day in harry potter world, being a witch, learning transfiguration and going for quidditch match. Plus doing all those awesome things that Harry, Hermione and Ron do. I would not wish to go for potions though, =) for obvious reason, as I would definitely be in Griffindor and I'm very sure that Snape would not pass up the chance to torture the Griffindors during his classes.  Other reasons why Harry Potter is my choice is because of the magical school Hogwarts, its moving staircases, talking portraits, spells, wands, and platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross station. Who would pass up such a chance?

But if I could not be a witch and have to sadly remain a muggle, I'd go for Prince Edward Island, a place from the book Anne of Green Gables. Nothing beats Anne's adventure and imagination. I would love to take a walk on a lane of cherry blossoms and dreaming by the pond, giving them splendid sounding names and doing all those crazy things that would make Marilla roll her eyes. It would be fantastic to let my imagination take a wild ride just like Anne, and to grow up with all those lovely people in the Anne's story.

Book blogger hop is hosted by Jennifer at Crazy-for-books. It's just the perfect platform for book bloggers to connect and discover what each other are reading. I must admit its been quite some time since I joined book blogger hop. Well its time to mingle again.

This week's question comes from Barb who blogs at Sugarbeat's Books.

 "Why do you read the genre that you do?  What draws you to it?"

My answer: Sometimes I categorize myself as truly eclectic but most of the time I just call myself  multicultural fiction and contemporary fiction lover. What draws me to multicultural genre? I would say their sheer cultural appeal, be it Indian, Japanese, Chinese or even middle eastern multicultural stories. There is just something soothing about curling up with a book which can identify with our sense of values and norms. There is also the sheer pleasure of getting to know a totally different culture. My first multicultural novel was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Since then I was hooked on reading more multicultural books. They simply rock.

I love contemporary fiction for their  realistic touch, the down to earth peoples stories which not only is  thought provoking sometimes but also touches one's heart. 

Besides these two genre's I do read thrillers and memoirs. So what is your favourite genre ? Do share it with me here.

Whoa!!! Its Friday. Hopping time!

What's your favorite beverage while reading or blogging, if any? Is it tea, coffee, water, a glass of wine, or something else?

My answer: Hmm  it depends I guess. Most often I don't take any drinks while reading or blogging. If I do it would be fizzy drinks. What about you guys?

Book blogger hop - October

How do you spread the word about your blog?

My answer: I started blogging in August, 2009. It was by trial and error that i managed to create a nice looking page with a little detail on what i'm about to post. I was clueless on networking and blog accessories. When I googled book blogs there were just hundreds of entries and I  was astounded. Well I do know that lots of  people read but i didnt know they blog what they read. 

I joined book blogs and found some blogs that I follow till today. I also use facebook to promote my blog and I do visit other blogs to read their post and drop a comment or two. Book blogger hop too has helped to spread the word and I'm glad to find other cool book blogs out there.

When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?

My answer: I prefer to write the review after reading the book as I can give a much better picture of the content and the writing style. I do not jot down or make notes while I'm reading though but I can see a lot bloggers do that. I might try it so i could easily remembers quotes from the books and add it to my review.

I've read several books for the past three months including Memoirs of a geisha, Dead head, Chasing eden, and Cleopatra's daughter.However my favourite review is definitely Cleopatra's daughter by Michelle Moran. A historical delectable dessert for the readers mind with travel back in time to Alexandria and Rome. A must read for all historical fiction fans and those who want to curl up with a book and travel back in time.

Do you judge a book by its cover?

I do. A great covers nudges me to read the synopsis and if its good, to  read it. A not so well done cover doesn,t arouse my interest as much but i would still give it a shot if the story's good. I believe a book cover acts sort of like a promoter for the book. To state a few, i absolutely loved the cover of the book I'm currently reading, 'Cleopatra's daughter' when I saw it in another blogger's best book lists. Another example would be the book' The art of racing in the rain by Garth Stein really stole my heart with a very soulful looking doggy dog eyes on the cover.

Hi welcome to my blog. I give reviews for the books that i read (multicultural, historical, thriller, contemporary and non-fiction) and spice up the blog with some interesting thoughts and snippets.

Do you use a rating system for your reviews and if so, what is it and why?

Generally i try to rate the books that i own as a guide for those who would like to get a summary before getting the book themselves or as a comparison to what they thought about the book. I rate books over 5. I do not have any fancy rating system, just a simple one for now. But i love to check out how other bloggers glam up their ratings with cool buttons ans so on. It's really a great way to find new and wonderful books in other bookshelves.
